The vision for London Green is to create a vibrant and diverse urban place. Informed by First Nations understanding of Country and respecting the natural environment, the project aims to regenerate the local biodiversity in a rich and regenerative environment. The concept respects the Griffin’s plans for Canberra and fulfils the promise of fine-grain, populated urban blocks defining Capital Hill.
The masterplan establishes a precinct defined by public spaces at a range of scales to suit diverse uses. At the heart of the site, a generous north-facing public space is created at the intersection of new pedestrian laneways. This space provides both a green heart open to the sky for relaxing, and an active north-facing restaurant and café precinct.
Paddock were involved in the initial project bid with Bates Smart and the subsequent selected design competition with Bates Smart, JPW, EM BE CE and Atelier Ten.
The project team’s bid was successful and detailed concept design is anticipated to commence in 2025, with a staged delivery of the site from 2028-2035 (subject to design and approval processes). Indicative design illustrated below, subject to design and approval processes.
